This is the original Science Junkie Live Show! Launched to a sell out audience at Cheltenham Science Festival in 2010 it has since been performed to 10,000 people at loads of the big science festivals around the UK, dozens of schools and even a couple of music festivals too! In this one-hour action-packed show Greg & Huw ride a surfboard suspended from the Science Junkie Cube, uncover the art of free-running, dangle upside-down to explore the physics of climbing, and get a kid to sprint with a parachute on their back!
The show blurb:
This show is available as a Festival Show or a School Show. The Festival Show uses the iconic Science Junkie Cube and is presented by Greg & Huw. The school show has all the awesome demos and video but is presented by one Science Junkie and without the cube (it takes quite a while to assemble!).
The show covers most of the Key Stage 3 and 4 Physics Curriculum but for detailed national curriculum links, learning outcomes, etc, follow the links below.
“This science show is unrivalled in educational value and was fun, fresh, innovative and captivating. You managed to keep everyone's full attention and complete control of the audience through a blend of great showmanship and knowledge about science.” Wrexham Science Festival
"We get told all the time that science is all around us… But what about halfway up a huge cliff, or free falling from 10,000 feet? How about jumping from building to building or cycling through an alpine pass?
Yep, science is in even the most extreme of sports, and in fact it is even more important in these high adrenaline, action packed adventures!
In this hour long live show, see just how risky rock climbing really is and what it’s like to fall at terminal velocity through the earth’s thin atmosphere.
This ‘science of extreme sports’ show will uncover how waves kick up and provide the perfect surf platform, how physics weirdly keeps our bikes stable, and how a free runner's physiology & technique handles the intense forces when they jump and flip around the city. Join us on a whistle stop tour of these adventure sports and the science behind them and by the end you too will become a Science Junkie!"
